Duelo de Titãs - 3

Um duelo sem precedentes, que nunca ocorreu de fato, mas que instiga fãs dos maiores ícones da música Pop de todos os tempos: Madonna e Michael Jackson.

Quem é o maior astro Pop? Sempre tive curiosidade sobre o assunto. E para não ser injusto, vou traçar um breve comparativo, de 1982, ano em que Madonna começou, até 2008, último ano efetivo na carreira de Michael Jackson. 

De um lado temos Michael Joseph Jackson (MJ), americano, solteiro, pai de três filhos, com 50 anos de idade. Do outro lado temos Madonna Louise Ciccone (MD), americana, casada, mãe de dois filhos e também com 50 anos de idade. 

Ambos nasceram no mês de agosto, MD no dia 16 e MJ no dia 29. Vejamos os números:

VENDAGENS

MJ é o recordista mundial em vendas somente com o álbum Thriller, de 1982. Estima-se que foram mais de 110 milhões de cópias vendidas no mundo todo. O álbum, The Immaculate Collection, de 1990, recordista de MD chegou a 40 milhões de cópias. No ranking por artista, MJ fica em terceiro lugar com 400* milhões de cópias vendidas, perdendo para The Beatles (600* milhões) e Elvis Presley (500-600* milhões). MD está na quarta posição com 300* milhões. (*) Estimativa.

Teriam ainda outros parâmetro a considerar (excentricidades, premiações, fortunas...), mas o post já está extenso demais.

Madonna e Michael Jackson estreitaram um breve relacionamento em 1991, segundo o depoimento da própria Madonna num discurso feito por ela no Video Music Awards em 2009, após a morte de Michael. - Vou publicar o depoimento em breve. 

A suposta rivalidade entre os reis do Pop nunca existiu de fato, a não ser pela mídia e pelos fãs. Os números não provam nada, são apenas números. A trajetória artística de ambos escreveu, e escreve, a estória da música de forma nunca vista antes: Michael com a sua genialidade e Madonna com a sua ousadia. Ambos, a frente do seu tempo. Ambos revolucionaram a música, a dança e a imagem dos clipes. Somente o tempo poderá dizer quem é o grande astro do Pop.
